Our History

It started as a "Sister Act."

Sisters Diana Friedland and Polina Bernstein built an award-winning employment law practice together. Today, Diana Friedland carries that legacy forward in Friedland Employment Law.

At the dining table of their childhood home in 2011, sisters Polina Bernstein and Diana Friedland made the decision to form Bernstein & Friedland, P.C., an employment law firm providing high-quality, dedicated service and advocacy to employers and employees in California.

The sisters were inspired by their father and uncle, who immigrated to the United States from Ukraine in the 1980s and launched their own small business, an auto body repair shop. When they started the business, they had only rusty English, limited education, little money, and no knowledge about car repair. Three decades later, the business had paid for Polina's gymnastics lessons, Diana's tennis lessons, and allowed both sisters to attend college and law school. Thereafter, Polina and Diana each went on to begin their respective legal careers at national law firms representing some of the largest companies in the United States.

Over their 13-year partnership, Polina and Diana successfully represented hundreds of employers and employees facing contentious employment matters, earning a reputation for their meticulous preparation, hard work, integrity, and results-driven advocacy.

The San Fernando Valley Business Journal named Polina and Diana as the "Business Team of the Year" at its 13th Annual Women in Business Awards. Both were voted by their peers to the Southern California Super Lawyers list of the top 5% of attorneys in the region, and both were featured Nominees at the 21st Annual Los Angeles Business Journal Women Making a Difference Awards.

The Los Angeles Daily Journal profiled the firm in a feature aptly titled "Sister Act."

In 2024, following Polina's transition to a successful career as an employment law mediator, Diana continues the firm as Friedland Employment Law, carrying forward the same foundation that defined their partnership: strategic advice, decisive advocacy, and personal attention to every client.
